Hongqi E-HS9 Luxury or just a Showpiece?

During my road trip through in Europe, I spotted a few different Hongqi E-HS9 SUVs, which is more than I expected for a brand that’s still trying to establish itself in Europe.


✔ Bentley or AliExpress special? – The styling is premium, but does it truly compete?
✔ Sold in Europe, but is it actually selling well?
✔ Looks expensive – Big, bold, and definitely makes a statement.

With a price tag north of €80K(I hear), the E-HS9 is competing with BMW, Mercedes, and Audi EVs. Is this just a flashy alternative for buyers who want something different, or does it actually belong in the luxury EV space?

Would you ever consider a Hongqi or is it too much of an unknown in the European market?

Look, it's undeniably a head-turner and they've clearly thrown a lot of premium styling cues at it but yeah, that "Bentley or AliExpress special" thought definitely crosses my mind. At that price point, they're playing in the big leagues with the established German giants, and honestly, it's a huge gamble for a brand that's still relatively unknown. It feels like they're aiming for that "look at me!" crowd, but whether it's got the substance to back it up remains to be seen. Personally, I'd be hesitant to drop that kind of cash on something with so little track record in Europe. It's a bit too much of an unknown quantity for me. I'd need to see a lot more long-term reliability data and owner reviews before I'd even consider it.
