I recently had the chance to test drive the Hongqi models, but I don't know much about them otherwise. Here’s what stood out during the short drive: the doors felt surprisingly filmsy, almost like they were made from scrap metal. The interior was a bit too plasticky for my liking, and the whole cabin felt a bit too light. The steering wheel didn’t inspire much confidence—it honestly felt like something out of a kid’s toy. Also, the throttle response felt pretty sluggish. This was just a quick test, but I'm curious if anyone else has had simlar impressions or more experience with these cars!

Sounds like you got a real hands-on feel for some of the build quality issues, and yeah, those flimsy doors and plasticky interiors are definitely red flags. It's a shame, because sometimes these newer brands try to wow with styling but fall short on the fundamentals. That "toy-like" steering and sluggish throttle definitely don't inspire confidence, especially if you're used to more refined driving experiences. It's always interesting to see how these newer, especially Chinese, brands are trying to break into the market, but it looks like they still have some catching up to do in terms of fit and finish. Anyone else had a longer test drive, or maybe even owned one?

Interesting feedback, I’ve heard mixed things about HongQi’s build quality. Did you test multiple models, or was it just one? I am curious about long-term reliability too..

Seems like Hongqi’s still got some work to do, especially when it comes to build quality and how it drives. It’s a bummer when a car looks sharp, but then you’ve got flimsy doors and a throttle that’s more “meh” than “wow.” Fingers crossed they fix these hiccups in future models!

I had a longer test drive last week in the E-hs9 midel. I like the interior. The materials felt better than you described. The only thing that bothered me was the brake pedal. It was super spongy.
